Meeting MENA’s Payment Preferences: How Tap Payments Supports Shopify Merchants

As e-commerce grows across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), businesses are faced with the challenge of offering efficient and seamless payment methods.

Customers in the region have specific preferences for local payment options, and businesses need to meet these demands while maintaining a smooth, user-friendly checkout process.

Tap Payments’ integration for Shopify

Tap Payments, a payment gateway specialising in the MENA region, has introduced a solution for Shopify merchants to simplify payment processes. The integration offers a dual-plugin approach that provides a wide range of payment options tailored to local preferences.

The first part of the solution is the Native Checkout Plugin, which integrates directly into Shopify stores, enabling merchants to accept payments from methods like Apple Pay, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, as well as local options like mada and Oman Net.

The second part, the Checkout Page Plugin, is designed to support customers who prefer local or alternative payment methods. This plugin accepts payments through regional options such as KNET and Benefit, along with digital wallets like Google Pay and Careem Pay, and buy now, pay later services such as Tabby.

“Running an online store is challenging enough without having to worry about complicated payment processes,” says Martin O’Leary, group head of marketing at Tap Payments. “At Tap Payments, we aim to simplify this for Shopify merchants in the Middle East and North Africa with Apple Pay Express Checkout.”

Streamlining the checkout process

One key feature of Tap Payments’ integration is the Apple Pay Express Checkout, which simplifies the purchasing process by allowing customers to complete transactions with a single tap. This reduces friction at the checkout stage and can help lower cart abandonment rates by making the experience quicker and more convenient for customers.

In addition to offering a variety of payment methods, Tap Payments’ plugins provide several features designed to help merchants manage their operations more efficiently. These include multi-currency support, detailed transaction reports, and options for handling refunds directly from Shopify’s interface.

The plugins also enable merchants to customise the checkout process, offering support for multiple languages and adaptable themes to suit a wide range of customer preferences across the MENA region.

Our focus has always been on understanding the unique payment preferences of customers in the MENA region,” O’Leary added. “By offering a diverse range of local and international payment methods, we’re helping merchants deliver a seamless checkout experience that meets the needs of their customers.”
