Shoppers using the e-commerce platform, eBay, will now have more choice and flexibility in how they pay as the firm expands its partnership with Klarna, the AI-powered global payments network and shopping assistant.
According to a 2024 PYMNTS Intelligence report, nearly half of Gen Z and Millennial consumers have used BNPL in the past 12 months. The service was evidently successful in Germany where eBay had trialled using Klarna as the offering. With the partnership aligning with the evolving preferences of today’s shoppers, Klarna’s flexible payment options will now be made available to those in the UK, Austria, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain. More markets are set to come.
With holiday shopping expected to increase this season, eBay shoppers can choose from Klarna’s payment options depending on their location. This includes interest-free Pay in 3, Pay in 30 days, or Financing for larger purchases with monthly repayments made over a longer period of time.
With the introduction of Klarna’s interest-free buy now pay later payment options, shoppers can pay over time for their eBay purchases, ranging from rare collectables, pre-loved luxury items, or hard-to-find car parts.
In addition to the versatility in payment methods, eBay buyers can shop with assurance when they select items eligible for eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee badge. A team of authenticators inspects and verifies the authenticity of each eligible item before it is shipped. This added layer of confidence, together with more flexible payment options for higher-value purchases, enables buyers to make informed and secure choices effortlessly.
As consumer demand for sustainable choices grows, the resale market is booming. Klarna users can now resell items bought through its app on eBay in minutes, with automatic listing details and images.
Improving the eBay selling experience
This new feature coincides with eBay’s recent announcement of free selling in the UK, which combined with a new streamlined listing process, simple delivery, and enhanced wallet functionality through eBay Balance, is improving the selling experience on eBay.
The addition of Klarna aligns with eBay’s payments strategy to provide buyers with choice, flexibility, and control in how they pay, so they can easily shop the unique inventory available on eBay and purchase products they are passionate about. It continues eBay’s push toward tapping into a younger demographic.
In addition to Klarna, eBay buyers can choose to pay with a breadth of popular and relevant payment options including major credit and debit cards, and digital wallets. The new resell feature also reinforces eBay’s commitment to make it easy for shoppers to become eBay sellers, and helps to expand the breadth of eBay’s inventory.
